The Denholm & District Community Council is established under the Scottish Borders Council (SBC) Community Council Scheme, in accordance with the terms of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1994.

The primary roles of the Community Council are:

Firstly, to ascertain the views of the community, and to express these to the SBC and to other public bodies as necessary, in relation to matters for which those authorities are responsible;

Secondly, to make known within the community information received from those local authorities; and

Thirdly, to take such action in the interests of the community as it deems expedient and practicable.

The Council is non-aligned politically, non-discriminatory and represents all members of the community of the Denholm & District area, the boundaries of which are shown on the map [attached].

COMPOSITION

The Council comprises between five and ten elected members, all of whom must be resident within the area and be listed on the electoral roll.  These full members may be supplemented by a limited number of co-opted members who may participate in any of the Council’s discussions, but who do not have any voting rights within the Council.

Currently, membership of the Community Council comprises:

Bob Ross (Chairman)

Stuart Beck (Vice Chairman/Secretary}

Jane Currie

Sid Huddart

Will Roberts (Treasurer/Secretary)

Gwen Crew (Co-opted member)

David Reeves (Co-opted member)

The Council is also supported by the Scottish Borders Councillor for the area covered by the Community Council or any part of it.  This Councillor has ex officio membership of the Community Council during his/her period of office for the SBC, but has no entitlement to vote, move motions or amendments, or hold office within the Community Council.

TERM OF OFFICE

The Council can decide its own term of office, although this must be for two, three or four years.
