Residents in the village
awakened to the sounds of sirens and were soon
devastated to learn that the village school was
ablaze.
Fire-fighters tried in vane to save the building but
the fire was fierce and it took over two hours to
get the blaze under control. The bottom end of the
school which includes the gymnasium has been totally
ruined.
The repair bill for
the damage is expected to run into six figures and
Scottish Borders Council is now making arrangements
to accommodate pupils elsewhere. |
